Choose an interior map tool by the door-and-wall test

A room map has different demands from a continent illustration. Dungeondraft’s official page lists tiling, objects, lighting and VTT export support. Those features make it a relevant candidate for interior scenes, but a purchase decision should start with the exact room and destination format you need to deliver.

Prepare one awkward room

Sketch a narrow entrance, two connected rooms, a thick wall and an object that partly blocks a doorway. Ask whether the tool can represent the arrangement clearly at the scale you actually use. Decorative furniture should not hide which spaces connect. If your work is an illustrated setting book rather than a tabletop map, also test a version without a grid; the output should explain the place without requiring game conventions.

Follow the export to its destination

For a VTT, identify the receiving platform and the particular importer or integration it needs. For a PDF, choose the intended page size and inspect labels and wall edges after placement. Official integration listings are a starting point, not proof that your current receiving setup will behave correctly. Ask for a relevant sample or use an available evaluation route before committing a production map. Check the operating-system and hardware notes as well.

Count the missing artwork, not just the application

List three essential objects that are difficult to substitute: perhaps a particular stair shape, an unusual workbench and a low partition. Establish whether suitable artwork is included or must be sourced separately. Additional asset packs can carry their own conditions, so keep their origin distinct from the application purchase. If the core task is only a labelled floor sketch, a simpler drawing workflow may meet the need without buying a specialist mapper.
